Thousands of attendees have convened for the 2024 AOG Energy Conference’s kick-off today to hear the Hon Reece Whitby, Minister for Energy express his confidence in Western Australia’s potential to become a green energy superpower, and acknowledge the dedication, effort, and significant investment required to pursue a cleaner energy future.
“I want this state to have a smarter, greener, diversified economy and that means building a global hub, encompassing innovative solutions, clean technologies and abundant infrastructure,” Minister Whitby said.
The Minister pointed out that the state is well-placed for a renewable energy shift, following a substantial $3.8 billion infusion into the state’s primary energy infrastructure aimed at bolstering wind and battery storage and a $60 billion allocation for The Investment Attraction Fund (IAF) to draw new investments into Western Australia.
Additionally, the introduction of a new green energy approvals unit, which concentrates on vital minerals, hydrogen and renewable energy projects, further cements Western Australia’s prime position for transitioning to renewable energy sources.
Aligned with the state’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, the transition to renewable energy will be a central topic of conversation at the 2024 AOG Energy Conference.
Key oil and gas companies have gathered to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by renewable energy, and to deliberate on the strategies that will help the state play a major role in the global energy shift.
