Over the past 12 years the mining sector has been a key driver of economic development in the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire, with ongoing exploration in the country bearing fruit across the commodities of gold, iron ore, nickel-cobalt, copper, bauxite and manganese.
Republic of Cote d’Ivoire Ministry of Mines, Petrol and Energy inspector general Cisse Sabati said the country benefited from existing production of gold, manganese and nickel, and had an additional four advanced gold projects progressing toward production.
Cote d’Ivoire is currently reviewing its mining law, while being careful to maintain its attractiveness, but focusing on strengthening governance of the Ivorian mining sector in parallel with further acquisition of geoscientific data to support future exploration.
Mr Sabati said gold production had significantly increased in the country, while production of nickel and bauxite has helped diversify the country’s outputs.
“Our geological formations offer enormous potential, as we have indications for more than 34 metals.
“Over the past decade our increased focus on mineral exploration has really borne fruits, we have seen the discovery of some significant mineral resources.”
Securing its intent in terms of mining development, the Cote d’Ivoire Government will host the inaugural International Exhibition for Extractive and Energy Resources in Ivory Coast (SIREXE) at the end of November in Abidjan.
