CSI Mining Services (CSI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Mineral Resources Limited (MinRes), is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a 10-year crushing services contract by Core Lithium for the Finniss Lithium Project (Finniss) in the Northern Territory.
CSI has a strong track record of safely providing industry leading crushing, screening and processing solutions for some of the world’s largest mining companies. This contract represents an exciting opportunity for CSI to build a new relationship with Core Lithium, Australia’s next lithium producer, and play a key role in the Northern Territory’s first lithium mine.
With demand for electric vehicles and energy storage soaring because of the global decarbonisation push, CSI is pleased to contribute its lithium crushing expertise to a project that will produce high-grade and high-quality spodumene concentrate needed for batteries. The Finniss contract bolsters CSI’s existing lithium crushing portfolio, making it the dominant crushing contractor in hard-rock lithium processing.
CSI will supply, install and operate a relocatable crushing and screening plant, which has been designed to comfortably achieve Core Lithium’s required Finniss production rate of 1.2Mtpa. CSI’s construction team is expected to start mobilising in June 2022 and be ready to commence operations in line with Core Lithium’s target for Finniss to begin producing during the final quarter of 2022.
The contract is CSI’s second project in the Northern Territory and builds on the success of the crushing services work being carried out at Newmont’s Tanami gold mine.
“Lithium is the most important commodity in supporting global decarbonisation and CSI Mining Services is delighted to be able to bring our expertise in lithium crushing and processing to a valued new client in Core Lithium,” Mike Grey, Mineral Resources’ Chief Executive – Mining Services, said.
“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to be involved in Core’s flagship Finniss project, which will become the Northern Territory’s first lithium mine. In line with Finniss’ status as a residentially based project, the crushing contract award will enable CSI to help generate local jobs and support the local economy.
“Crushing and processing in a safe and responsible manner are at the heart of our Mining Services business. This new contract with Core reinforces CSI’s position as a market-leading and highly sought-after mining services contractor.”
